Everyone at United Way is excited to hosting the inaugural Eastern CT Walk Against Hunger to benefit the Gemma E. Moran United Way/Labor Food Center. The Walk takes place on Sunday, May 5, beginning and ending at Chelsea Parade in Norwich.
Ellen Mail, one of our AmeriCorps VISTAs, is spearheading the event and doing a great job. It's not easy to put on an event of this magnitude, especially when it's the first time. There is a lot of learning going on for many of us and finding out what it takes, permits needed, etc. when hosting a "walk" event. But the research and efforts that Ellen puts forth this year will surely lay the groundwork for a successful event this year and for years to come.
Registration recently opened and we hope the community will join us as we Walk Against Hunger. It's free to register but there's a $30 minimum donation to receive a t-shirt. As with many of these kinds of events, participants seek support from family members, friends, colleagues and others to help raise money for the Food Center. You can also register online as a "virtual" walker if you cannot join us on May 5.
I want to extend a special thanks to The Bulletin for joining us as our Media Partner for the event. Thank you to Publisher Chris Voccio for his wonderful support of this event and to United Way. We truly appreciate your partnership.
