United Way and the NFL
The partnership between United Way and the National Football League
began in 1974. It is the longest running sports/charity television advertising series in history. Roger Staubach, Franco Harris, and Bob Griese were on the very first roster of United Way spokesmen. Since that time, nearly 1,000 NFL/United Way commercials have been produced and aired to millions of Americans.
The long-standing partnership highlights its commitment to community at every turn. Most recently, in October, 2004, the NFL wanted to make a difference in the lives of those affected by the unprecedented number of hurricanes in Florida. Commissioner Paul Tagliabue announced that the NFL would donate $1 million to United Way of America for disaster relief efforts in order to assist victims of the hurricanes. This is just one more example of why United Way and the NFL are perfect partners.
Many thanks to the NFL for their continued support of United Way -- and for assisting our efforts to make an impact in what matters.
