Gales Ferry, CT – The United Way of Southeastern Connecticut is energized to announce that Lawrence & Memorial Hospital has increased its employee campaign by 39% over last year’s total. Initially, the hospital set a goal of $70,000 for this year’s campaign but achieved over $90,000 (a 29% increase over goal). Bill Stanley, vice president, development & community relations stated, “We are extraordinary proud of the great effort the hospital and the unions put forth, and the fact that when the community was most in need that Lawrence & Memorial Hospital stepped up for the greatest campaign in its history.”
Education about the services and programs that are provided by United Way agencies to support the community was a key element to their success. “I am very proud of the employees of Lawrence & Memorial Hospital and how they came together to help United Way and their union brothers and sisters,” stated Harry Rodriguez, President of Local 5123. Kathy Martin, president of Local 5051 was happy that “the union leaders were asked to participate in the planning of the campaign this year and the unions did it.”
United Way of Southeastern Connecticut is a non-profit organization that improves the lives of people who live and work in New London County and strengthens the community through local health and human service programs. Programs and partnerships that the United Way support improves community wellness, help children thrive, supply basic human needs, and provide training and education for jobs.
