Gales Ferry, CT – The Board of Directors of United Way of Southeastern Connecticut announces the distribution of more than $4 Million in public donations to fund health and human service programs that serve residents of southeastern Connecticut.
Nearly 100 volunteers donated 40 hours of personal time to review partner agency programs that receive funding from the United Way of Southeastern Connecticut. Over a four-month period, community volunteers carefully studied each program. This study included visits to each agency, interviews with agency personnel and board members, analysis of agency budgets and audits, reviews of the total number of clients served, and evaluation of the overall performance of each program.
United Way of Southeastern Connecticut’s rigorous allocations process ensures that contributions are meeting the community’s most pressing needs, focusing on the four impact areas for our community, Community Wellness, Thriving Children, Basic Needs, and Promoting Independence. These impact areas are the conduit that the allocations committees focus their decisions and rate each agency program against the need, program efficiency, and program results to ensure that contributions are fulfilling United Way of Southeastern Connecticut’s mission to change our community by helping people in need through responsible use of donations. “The members of the Allocations Cabinet and their respective volunteers did an excellent job of allocating funding where the need is greatest and maintaining overall flat funding to ensure our partner agencies can help those within our community” said Robert Hamilton, United Way Board Chair.
Vicki Anderson, President of the Council of United Way Area Executives, United Way Agency Representative Board Member, and the Executive Director of Pawcatuck Neighborhood Center, made a statement during United Way’s Board Meeting regarding the work that United Way partner agencies do in our community, and the importance of this funding that was made possible through United Way donors. “Our voices at this table are for all of the under-employed, the unemployed, the hungry, those struggling with mental illness, the infants, toddlers and children trying to thrive while their parents are at work, for the alcoholic and drug addict, the homeless, those just out of prison, those with incurable illnesses, and those who are old and isolated; and those escaping domestic violence. Their numbers are growing.”
