United Way of Southeastern Connecticut is pleased to announce that Nancy Rossi has been hired as Managing Executive of the Gemma E. Moran United Way/Labor Food Center, located in New London. Rossi has worked in state government and the regional mental health system, having recently retired from a management career with the Southeastern Mental Health Authority. She is a well-known community leader, both in state social work efforts and in this region.

Rossi has a long history with United Way of Southeastern Connecticut as well. She has served the organization in a multitude of volunteer roles including as Chair of the Board of Directors, as a Campaign and Allocations volunteer, and as a member of the Food Center’s Advisory Council. In addition, Rossi is Co-chair of the New London County Food Policy Council that is working, along with several community partners, to advocate for and collaborate on mutually beneficial solutions to food system problems.

“Nancy Rossi is one of the most dedicated United Way advocates I have event met,” noted United Way Board Chair Keith Fontaine of The William W. Backus Hospital. “She knows our region, understands its needs, respects its people, and has been a positive force for change.

“Our United Way is the only one in the country to operate its own food bank, and Nancy has been part of that development,” Fontaine continues. “She is uniquely suited to lead us toward a deeper, more strategic level to meet the food needs of our region’s families and children.”

Rossi is currently Chair of the Ledyard Social Services Board and is a resident of Gales Ferry.
