United Way of Southeastern
Connecticut Announces 2008 Fund Distribution to Partner Agencies
Gales Ferry, CT – The United Way of
Southeastern Connecticut, a recognized Four Star Charity Navigator
organization, announces that the Board of Directors has approved the
distribution of more than $ 7.1 million to fund health and human service
programs throughout southeastern Connecticut.
The allocations process consisted of
nearly 70 volunteers who dedicated numerous hours of their time to
review all of the programs currently receiving funds from the United Way
of Southeastern Connecticut. Over a four-month period, community
volunteers carefully studied each program before recommending any
funding. This study included visits to each agency, interviews with
agency personnel and board members, analysis of agency budgets and
audits, review the total number of clients served, and evaluation of the
overall performance of the funded programs.
United Way of Southeastern Connecticut’s
rigorous allocations process ensures that contributions are meeting the
community’s most pressing needs, and focuses on the four impact areas
for our community; Community Wellness, Thriving Children, Basic Needs,
and Training and Education for Jobs. These impact areas are the conduit
through which the allocations process enables the United Way of
Southeastern Connecticut’s partner agencies to meet the needs of our
community.
Community Impact is a key initiative for
the United Way of Southeastern Connecticut. “We are changing to become
an organization that is not only a fundraiser for the community, but a
value driven non-profit organization with the ability to measure
results” says Nancy Rossi, United Way Board Chair and Director,
Community Support Services at the Southeastern Mental Health Authority.
United
Way of Southeastern Connecticut is a non-profit organization that
improves the lives of people who live and work in New London County and
strengthens the community through local health and human service
programs. Programs and partnerships that the United Way supports improve
community wellness, help children thrive, supply basic human needs, and
provide training and education for jobs.
