Mohegan Sun Volunteers Get
Their Hands
Dirty at Terra Firma Farm
Employees
plan to spend 2 days making over farm for United Way Day of Caring
Stonington, Conn … On Thursday, May 18th &
Friday, May 19th a group of employees from Mohegan Sun will spend two
days volunteering at the Terra Firma Farm for a United Way Day of Caring
project. The group has a full slate of projects planned to help enhance
the farm’s facilities and educational offerings for visitors. The
volunteers will be at the farm from 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m on both days.
The projects that the Mohegan Sun group will be
working on include:
- Clearing an acre of land for a blueberry
patch;
- Building a shelter for expectant pigs;
- Constructing a moveable goat shelter;
- Building moveable free-range chicken
enclosures; and
- Transplanting seedlings for a pizza garden.
United Way’s Day of Caring matches groups of
corporate volunteers with projects at nonprofit organizations. In 2005,
nearly 1,000 local volunteers participated in a Day of Caring project
and the effort continues to grow each year. The projects provide
much-needed manpower and work at nonprofit organizations, serve as
team-building exercises for the employee groups, and show volunteers the
needs in the community.
The Terra Firma Farm is located at 330 Al Harvey
Road in Stonington. For more information about the Farm, and for
