United Way Board Chair Keith Fontaine Honored as Hunger Action Hero

Connecticut Food Bank (CFB) honored its Hunger Action Heroes on September 22 at an awards ceremony attended by more than 125 guests at the organization's East Haven warehouse. The heroes are individuals, businesses, and organizations that go above and beyond to support CFB in its mission to provide nutritious food to people in need. The event coincides with Hunger Action Month in September.Hunger Action Heroes

Among those honored were United Way of Southeastern Connecticut Board Chair Keith Fontaine, Chief Administrative Officer of The William W. Backus Hospital. As we all know, Keith is an advocate for community health and education and a strong proponent of increasing access to fresh, healthy food for low-income individuals and families. Keith is a leader in community solutions to fight hunger, and he is a founder of the New London County Food Policy Council.

The Gemma E. Moran United Way/Labor Food Center is an official Partner Distribution Organization (PDO). This status ensures a partnership with CFB, the largest food bank in the state, to provide a product allocation based on poverty levels as determined by the census. Through CFB, we are also a member of Feeding America which allows the purchase of approximately $7 worth of food for every $1.
