Volunteer opportunities at United Way

What a wintry week it has been! The weather sure has lots of us thinking and dreaming of spring! While we patiently await spring’s arrival there are some wonderful ways you could get involved with United Way of Southeastern Connecticut.

Did you know that after the holiday season is over it is one of the times the Gemma E. Moran United Way/Food Center needs donations the most? One way to beat the winter blues could be to hold a food drive in your office or workplace. Visit the food drive section of our website for more information on running a drive.  Visit: http://www.uwsect.org/how-run-food-drive.

If a food drive isn’t for you, United Way is also looking for volunteers the Food Center.

Do you have a forklift license?
Are you comfortable using hand trucks and pallet jacks?
Are you comfortable lifting more than 10 pounds?

If you said yes to any or all of these we are reaching out to you. The Food Center is looking for volunteers to help unload our mobile food pantry and assist in the warehouse. Your time would help keep our mobile food pantry distribution running smoothly. Specifically, we’re looking for volunteers at these times:

  • Every Friday between the hours of 9am-3pm
  • Every second Friday of the month from 4pm-5pm
  • The first Thursday of every month from 6:30pm-7:30pm
  • Every first Friday of the month from 6:45pm-7:45pm
  • The third Wednesday of each month from 6pm-7pm
  • The fourth Wednesday of each month from 5:30pm-6:30pm
  • The fourth Friday of each month from 12pm-1pm

Administrative assistance (mainly answering phones) is also needed from 12:00-3:00 pm on Mondays and/or 9:00 am-Noon on Fridays and Noon-3:00 pm Fridays.
If you are interested in volunteering for any of these shifts, please contact Maureen LeBlanc at 860-237-3971 or Maureen.Leblanc@uwsect.org
