Our friends from Charter Oak Federal Credit Union stopped by the Gemma E. Moran United Way/Labor Food Center this past week with a very welcome and generous gift. On Thursday, November 7, representatives from the Chelsea Groton Foundation presented a check for $3,000 to support United Way's Mobile Food Pantry Program. The presentation took place at the Gemma E. Moran United Way/Labor Food Center.
One out of every six children in Southeastern Connecticut is food insecure. That means they do not know when or where they’ll get their next meal and have limited access to food. To celebrate the holiday and help provide a nutritious meal on Thanksgiving, the Gemma E. Moran United Way/Labor Food Center is seeking donations for children, families, and individuals in our community struggling with hunger and food insecurity.
During Hunger Action Month in September, it was fitting to recognize Nancy Connell for volunteering at the Gemma E. Moran United Way/Labor Food Center for more than 100 hours. She is pictured in the photo with Nancy Rossi, Managing Executive at the Food Center (right), and Jennifer Blanco, the Food Center's Feeding Site Specialist (left), as they honor her as a Hunger Action Hero.
