The Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center is pleased to announce the first major initiative for its new property, the Coogan Farm. In February, the Nature Center, United Way of Southeastern Connecticut and the Robert G. Youngs Family Foundation signed an agreement that promises to bring fresh food to thousands of hungry residents of New London County daily.
What a wintry week it has been! The weather sure has lots of us thinking and dreaming of spring! While we patiently await spring’s arrival there are some wonderful ways you could get involved with United Way of Southeastern Connecticut.
United Way is looking for volunteers to help serve on its Allocations Panels. These teams of volunteers help United Way fulfill its mission of changing the community by helping people in need through responsible use of donations.
Happy New Year from all of us at United Way! Can you believe it is already 2014? I know I can’t. With a new year beginning so does a period of reflection on the past 365 days and sense of hope for a fresh start. Oh and of course, a resolution for 2014.
The New Year means tax season is quickly approaching! Here is an opportunity to get your taxes done for free by IRS certified volunteers. TVCCA is offering free tax preparation for those making $50,000 or less a year through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program.
Have you seen the United Way of Southeastern Connecticut’s Mobile food pantry truck? It is absolutely awesome! This past Friday I got the opportunity to see the truck in action for the first time and was amazed by the opportunities created by this truck for the local community.
The truck itself was donated by CL&P to United Way and is one of three in the state of CT. It is a custom refrigerated truck that allows for foods such as meats and vegetables to be brought to locations throughout New London County. How neat!!
Good morning and Happy Holidays! My name is Laura Harris and I began working with United Way of Southeastern Connecticut about 2 weeks ago as a Loaned Employee sponsored by Mohegan Sun. I have had a great time so far learning how things work in the office and about all the great things our staff and volunteers are a part of!
This week, Matt McCormack and the team from QDiscovery in New London presented the Gemma E. Moran United Way/Labor Food Center with a check for $5,000.
