2022 Stamp Out Hunger Letter Carriers food drive this Saturday

Fill a bag, help a family. The National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) will conduct its annual national food drive, called Stamp Out Hunger, to combat hunger and food insecurity on Saturday, May 14. On that day, letter carriers will collect non-perishable donations from customers as they deliver mail along their postal routes.

Help your neighbors struggling with hunger and food insecurity by leaving non-perishables by your mailbox. All donations in New London County will go to the Gemma E. Moran United Way/Labor Food Center (Food Center), located in New London, or one of its member pantries.

The Food Center provides food to a vast network of free emergency food programs throughout the county including shelters, food pantries, child care programs, community meal sites, and programs for the elderly. In addition, the Food Center operates a Mobile Food Pantry that makes multiple stops every month to provide food directly to those in need.

Items that make excellent donations to the Food Center include: macaroni and cheese, dry pasta and cereal, pasta sauce, dry cereals, canned tuna and soup, and peanut butter. Items that are whole grain rich and low in sodium are encouraged. Donations should not be in glass containers or be expired.

The 300,000-member National Association of Letter Carriers, which represents city delivery letter carriers in all 50 states and U.S. jurisdictions, conducts the world’s largest one-day food drive each year on the second Saturday in May. Primary co-sponsors of the drive are the U.S. Postal Service, United Way, the AFL-CIO, and Feeding America.
