Nonprofits join together to create equity in housing

United Way along with six other leading nonprofits in the region are joining together to launch the Center for Housing Equity & Opportunities in Eastern CT (CHEO).

The new Center will officially begin its work early in 2023 to facilitate a coordinated, regional response to address housing affordability in Eastern Connecticut. Based on similar efforts in other parts of the state, the Center will work with housing practitioners, municipalities, and policymakers to develop a regional housing strategy and to align, grow, and deliver critical housing resources including dedicated staff, regional data capacity, and technical assistance. The goal of the Center is to support the preservation, production, and protection of housing affordability across the region.

The Center for Housing Equity & Opportunities in Eastern CT will be a strategic partnership between seven nonprofits led by the Community Foundation of Eastern Connecticut and includes Connecticut College, Eastern Connecticut State University, United Way of Southeastern Connecticut, Partnership for Strong Communities, Regional Plan Association, and the Housing Collective.

We are extremely grateful to our funding partners who are committed to addressing the housing inequities in Eastern Connecticut:
