Savings Institute Bank & Trust, along with Rotary Community Corps of Norwich are proud to announce the second annual Uniting for United Competitive Food Drive to benefit the Gemma E. Moran United Way/Labor Food Center, a program of United Way of Southeastern Connecticut. Last years’ competition brought together more than 20 local businesses in 75 different locations and resulted in more than 9000 pounds of food and $3,900 in cash donations. Together, this was the equivalent of 46,000 meals, which will helped feed the nearly 22,000 food insecure residents in New London County for two months.
This year’s competition began May 15th and runs until June 1st with the official weigh-in collection at Savings Institute Bank & Trust’s 108 Salem Turnpike location in Norwich on June 2nd. Local businesses will compete to collect the most food in three categories including a business type category, overall weight category and an overall monetary collection category.
“We were thrilled to have such a high level of success with our first year of the competition, and this year our goal is to double last year’s collection and feed New London County for the entire summer,” commented Dan Spellman of Rotary Community Corps.
Sponsors for this year’s event include major media sponsor, The Bulletin and Hall Communications, Full Power Radio and Cumulus Radio as radio sponsors.
