Summer hunger is real and we need your help now

Kids deserve a summer free from worry. But the truth is, too many kids worry that summer means missing meals that they would normally get at school.

During the school year, children have the opportunity to receive free or reduced-priced meals at school. However, these same children go hungry during summer break. You can help provide meals to kids and their families during this critical time of year.

Our Gemma E. Moran United Way/Labor Food Center is still active and hard at work helping to feed those in need in our community. However at this time, we have an urgent need for nonperishable food donations. These photos show what places in our warehouse look like right now!

Most-needed items to donate include: cold and hot cereals, peanut butter, jelly, pasta and pasta sauce, and canned vegetables.

Food donations can be dropped off at our warehouse at 374 Broad Street in New London, between Monday-Friday from 8 a.m.-4 p.m.

After hours there is a donation bin located by the rear loading dock.

Please no glass containers or expired items!

You can also help by making a financial contribution. Simply text GEMMA to 41444.
