TVCCA offering free tax preparation

The New Year means tax season is quickly approaching! Here is an opportunity to get your taxes done for free by IRS certified volunteers. TVCCA is offering free tax preparation for those making $50,000 or less a year through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program.

What is VITA?
VITA is a program where volunteers become IRS certified in able to assist people who make $50,000 or less and  “need assistance in preparing their own tax returns. IRS-certified volunteers provide free basic income tax return preparation with electronic filing to qualified individuals in local communities. They can inform taxpayers about special tax credits for which they may qualify such as Earned Income Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit, and Credit for the Elderly or the Disabled.”

VITA works to make sure individuals receive as much of a refund as they have earned, knowing that tax returns can make a big difference in an individual’s or family’s financial situation.

Taxes are done by appointment only- you can call 860.425.6597starting January 6th to make an appointment. Tax preparation is available from February 3 - April 10, 2014.
