Volunteer Spotlight: An Interview with Lauren

Lauren is a regular volunteer at the Food Center and a firm believer in the importance of giving back. We asked her about what motivates her to spend time serving others.

Hi! Tell us a little about yourself. How long have you been volunteering with United Way?

My name is Lauren, and I have been volunteering since before Thanksgiving.

How did you get started volunteering here at the Food Center?

I was looking for a volunteer opportunity where I could be committed and they would value my work, and I just love the idea of the food bank to help others that are in need of nutrition.

What motivates you to give back to the community with United Way?

I need to give back. I have so much, and I’m so fortunate and grateful for the things that I have in my life, and if I can volunteer my time to give to others who are struggling, it’s worth it.

What’s your favorite thing about volunteering at the Food Center?

I think the comradery. Lamar, who is the head of the volunteers, makes it a very enjoyable place to be. He’s super supportive and grateful for his volunteers, and he makes you feel good, and the people that you work with are like-minded people, and you just learn a little bit, you have community service- it’s enjoyable.

What would you say to someone who’s thinking of volunteering?

Absolutely do it.
