Be part of our next Virtual Reading Day!

United Way Virtual Reading Day is back! To celebrate Black History Month in February and Women’s History Month in March, we are asking our virtual readers to choose a book that features a protagonist of color or a female protagonist. Need some ideas? There’s a suggested list of titles attached. We are taking our reading online and asking readers to record a video of themselves reading.

If interested, more information about how to record and submit will be sent to you via email. Questions? Contact Christina Fleury at or 860-464-3319. Please sign up by February 19, 2021 if you are interested in participating.

Reading Day Details:
February 22-March 12, 2021
Location: Your choice! Read at home, in your office, or in a fun location that correlates to the story you’ve chosen.
What you’ll do: record yourself reading a children’s book using your phone/tablet/computer and upload it so that United Way can create a YouTube playlist of different stories to share with local schools, teachers, and parents.
Click here for more details about Reading Day Video Guidelines to make the most of your video.

More about the event:

  • A copy of your chosen book can be purchased and then donated to a United Way partner agency. Send us the book at 283 Stoddards Wharf Road, Gales Ferry, CT 06335.
  • Volunteers indicate on the registration form if they have an idea for a book they’d like to read or if they would like suggestions. Please remember to choose a book that features either a protagonist of color or a female protagonist.
  • Would you like to read in Spanish? We’re looking for dual-language readers!
