Since 1988, the Gemma E. Moran United Way/Labor Food Center has played a key role in building healthy communities by supporting families in our community who are experiencing food insecurity.
Last year, our Food Center distributed the equivalent of two million meals in partnership with 65 member programs including food pantries, shelters, childcare centers, community meal sites, programs for the elderly and our Mobile Food Pantry at no cost to those in need.
Each month, 23,500 people are served through these programs.
The Food Center is part of our work in the Healthy Community impact area to improve health and well being for all. Helping people to overcome barriers to good health includes improving access to food and healthy food options.
If you share our passion for eliminating food insecurity, we invite you to take action with any of the options below.
Inclement Weather Closures & Delays
If New London Public Schools are closed because of inclement weather, the Food Center will be closed for shopping and volunteers.
If New London Public Schools has a 2-hour delay, the Food Center will be open at 9:00 a.m.
If you miss your shopping time because of a closure or delayed opening, members can contact the Food Center to reschedule their shopping time for the week.
If we cancel or reschedule a Mobile Food Pantry distribution, we will post it on our FACEBOOK PAGE and send a text through our Mobile Food Pantry text alert. To sign up for Mobile Food Pantry alerts, text UWMOBILE to 51555.
