United Way recruiting volunteers for Days of Caring

Volunteers sought to help local nonprofit agencies

Volunteers at the Freedom Trail Neighborhood Cleanup projectUnited Way of Southeastern Connecticut offers opportunities that connect volunteers with local agencies in need of support. Volunteer teams and individuals are now being recruited to work on four projects over the next year on Days of Caring. Wondr Nation is the Days of Caring Presenting Sponsor to assist the agencies with costs related to each project.

Days of Caring are large-scale, one-day volunteer projects at nonprofit organizations that create a positive impact in the community and make meaningful, long-term change. Activities include gardening, deep cleaning, serving lunch at a community meal site, painting, and small building projects.

A volunteer committee reviewed applications from nonprofits in New London County to select the four Day of Caring projects. They are:

  • St. Vincent DePaul Place on Tuesday, September 26, 2023
Putting together a new Welcome Center and Serving Line at their location in Norwich, deep cleaning the kitchen and dining area, and serving lunch.
  • FRESH New London on November 15, 2023
Winterizing the community garden and distributing food during the annual Thanksgiving Pop-up Food Distribution.
  • Craig Floyd Giving Garden at Coogan Farm at the Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center on March 19, 2024
Starting seedlings for the spring harvest, setting irrigation lines, and engaging in other garden maintenance activities.
  • SCADD on May 31, 2024
Painting the ramps and a deck, building a gazebo, planting gardens throughout the property, and sprucing up the Welcome Center with fresh flower beds.

Volunteer slots are still available for all of the projects. Sponsorship opportunities exist as well. To learn more about each project and how to sign up, go to https://www.uwsect.org/united-way-days-caring.
