Every August, we mobilize the community to donate and/or collect school supplies to ensure that all children go back to school with the material supplies needed for academic success. The 2019 drive resulted in the donation of more than 11,000 items that were provided to 25 school systems and learning centers in New London County. Stay tuned to find our details of our next drive that will occur in 2020.
You may drop off school supply donations directly at the United Way office at 283 Stoddards Wharf Road in Gales Ferry.
You can also support our local students by running your own drive. Consider setting up a few collection boxes at your business or organization to collect supplies from your employees and/or customers. Promote the drive on internal staff emails or to customers via your social media networks. Even easier is to share United Way's own social media posts to your networks.
The most-needed items for students that we hear from teachers are: backpacks, pencils, erasers, rulers, crayons, highlighters, sharpeners, binders, and loose leaf paper.
