Program open to high school juniors and seniors
United Way of Southeastern Connecticut is now accepting applications to its 2025-26 Student United Way program for high school juniors and seniors from New London County area schools. Applications are due by Tuesday, September 30, 2025. Apply to Student United Way now >>
Student United Way (SUW) is an initiative under United Way’s impact area Youth Opportunity. Those accepted into the cohort will experience and learn about the needs in New London County and visit nonprofit organizations addressing them.
While volunteering, students will experience first-hand what it feels like contributing to their community. Last year’s SUW cohort volunteered at United Way Mobile Food Pantries, the Tommy Toy program, and at the Gemma E. Moran United Way/Labor Food Center warehouse.
Participants will learn more in-depth about philanthropy and be an important part of the decision-making process by awarding a $2,500 grant to a local nonprofit that is a United Way partner program. Last year’s grant recipient was Safe Futures.
Anyone interested is encouraged to apply, regardless of experience in the nonprofit world. Students who successfully complete the program can:
- Fulfill volunteer hour requirements
- Explore interests in philanthropy and careers at nonprofits
- Build valuable experience for job or school applications
- Receive a letter of recommendation
- Give back to their community
- Earn eligibility for a $500 drawing
Only students who successfully complete the program are eligible for program benefits, including a letter of recommendation and entry into the $500 cash award drawing.
