United Way hosting second annual Cornhole Tournament to raise funds for local nonprofits

United Way of Southeastern Connecticut is hosting its second annual Cornhole Tournament to benefit its network of health and human service Partner Programs.

The family-friendly tournament takes place on Saturday, September 17 at United Way at 283 Stoddards Wharf Road in Gales Ferry from Noon – 4 p.m. Both competitive and casual players and teams are welcome. Numerous trophies and awards are presented, and food and beverage trucks will be on-site.

Mobile Pantry schedule for September 2022

The Gemma E. Moran United Way/Labor Food Center (Food Center) will host five free, drive-thru Mobile Pantries in the month of September.

As part of the Eastern CT Health Collaborative’s Mobile Health Hub, other social service agencies will be on-site at two of the following Mobile Pantry deployments to provide additional information, referrals, and resources. You do not have to be in need of food in order to speak with the other agencies and vice versa:

Connecticut United Ways COVID Response Fund Results

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Connecticut United Ways across the state partnered to launch the Connecticut United Ways COVID-19 Response Fund to provide cash assistance to help households struggling financially through the pandemic. Recipients of the Fund were screened for eligibility by referring community partners in order to receive $200 (one-time) cash assistance through an Akimbo Mastercard.

United Way Funding Announced for 2022-23

United Way announces nearly $1.8 million in funding to local health and human service programs

United Way of Southeastern Connecticut’s Board of Directors has approved funding in the amount of $1,791,654 for the fiscal year 2022-23. This funding supports 40 health and human service programs at 23 local nonprofit agencies in New London County that work together to provide a vital safety net of services to help those in need.
