United Way of Southeastern Connecticut is opening its funding application process for wider community impact. For the first time in years, United Way’s Partner Program funding is now available to new nonprofit applicants, inviting fresh ideas and meaningful solutions to meet the evolving needs of Southeastern Connecticut. This also means that existing partners may apply for funding for new and/or modified programs that more closely align with current community needs and United Way’s new impact areas.
Over the last fifteen years, United Way has invested more than $37 million into Partner Program grants, supporting local nonprofits that deliver life-changing health and human services. Currently, 38 programs across 22 organizations receive funding through this process, a time-honored legacy of community input, volunteer review, and transparency. This network of programs works together with United Way, so all can thrive in New London County.
Until now, that process, known as Allocations, has been only open to existing partners. But following a recent update to its community impact framework and brand identity, United Way is reimagining what partnership looks like.
“We know our community's needs continue to evolve, and this is an opportunity for both new and existing partners to bring forward the programs that are most needed today,” said Dina Sears-Graves, President and CEO of United Way of Southeastern Connecticut. “We’re excited to welcome new voices and innovative solutions into a process that is deeply rooted in transparency, volunteer engagement, and local decision-making.”
The shift comes after months of listening sessions with current partners, potential new applicants, and community members. As always, the process remains grounded in accountability, and funding will be awarded only to programs that demonstrate measurable results and align with the United Way Impact Areas of Healthy Community, Youth Opportunity, and Financial Security.
